What do i do if my HP laptop starts up with a black screen and a cursor only?

My HP laptop loads up and when it comes to the point when i chose a profile it wont load up the screen. The screen is just black and only has a cursor. Even when i enter in other modes it does this. What is the Problem and how can i fix it?
PS: When i run the start up repair it says there is no problem with the start up drivers.
