This year, one company is set on moulding the game of camera-enabled mobile phones. This company is Sony Ericsson, and they plan to not only corner the market in high-end camera phones, but bottom-end handsets, too!

Camera phones in history – the Sony Ericsson legacy

It’s fitting, really, that Sony Ericsson should be the ones leading the way in the coming paradigm shift in camera-equipped mobile phones. After all, it was they who began it all, way back in 2002. Let’s remember, they were the first manufacturer to release a mobile phone that’d got a camera built in, in the British marketplace. That phone was the Sony Ericsson P800, but it didn’t really hit the mass market in the way that Sony Ericsson wanted, because an amazingly (compared to other mobile phones at the time) top-end smartphone. However, their most iconic mobile ever was soon to be unveiled, and that one WOULD get huge mass market appeal. It was the Sony Ericsson T610, and it entirely altered the mobile landscape. Here you had a phone that stood out amongst the crowd of all the other mobile phones it was up against. It was small, it was sexy, and the country ADORED it. The key thing was… the Sony Ericsson T610 had also got a built-in camera, and that it was actually the first handset to hit the mass market, and make people go, ‘Hang on, we really do want our mobile phones to have cameras in ‘em!’

Today, the market has diverged, into entry-level handsets, and high-end camera-equipped mobile phones; well, it’s fair to say that Sony Ericsson want to be the lings of both!

Sony Ericsson S302 – the entry level happy snapper

Say you want a Sony Ericsson camera phone, but not a mega-massive smartphone. If so, then the Sony Ericsson S302, the first phone in their whole new Snapshot series, is absolutely perfect for you. It’s a lovely little mobile, with a small, slick shell, a gorgeous screen, and a groovy little multimedia browser. On top of that, despite this being classed in the ‘budget phone’ category, the Sony Ericsson S302 is equipped with a great little 2 megapixel camera. Ok, it doesn’t have top-end features like autofocus, but considering that it’s a budget snapper, it’s brilliant!

But the S302 is a budget mobile phone… what if you want something that has real muscle? What if you want one of Sony Ericsson’s Cyber-Shot range…?

Sony Ericsson C905 – the ultimate camera phone?

There’s no denying power, and one thing is for certain: the Sony Ericsson C905 has much more sheer power than all other mobile phones you can get in the UK. How come? Simple, this is the first camera phone to be unleashed upon the UK that’s got an 8 megapixel camera. That’s right. 8. That’s a frighteningly huge pixel resolution, and it means that the Sony Ericsson C905 will let you take the absolute crispest images you’ve ever witnessed, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, in the history of everything ever. Oh, and of course, let’s not forget that Sony Ericsson have packed it full of Cyber-Shot brilliance, and that will make the images coming out of it even more unbelievable. Combine that with a top of the range multimedia browser, WiFi, HSDPA and built-in GPS, and the end result is that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, without doubt, the king of the hill!

Sony Ericsson C905 is 8 Megapixel Camera Phone – Sony C905 UK

The first ever 8 megapixel Cybershot camera phone has now been launched on O2 in the UK, the new Sony Ericsson C905 is the manufacturers flagship model and offers the very latest in technology and features from the camera focussed Cybershot range.

The Sony C905 is to get some unwelcome company from competing manufacturers as the first batch of 8 megapixel camera phones are released onto the UK markets, in particular the LG KC910 Renoir and Samsung M8800 Pixon models.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot phone offers a groundbraking 8.1 mega pixel camera which is a genuine alternative to a digital camera. The camera includes top-end features including a Xenon flash, Auto focus face detection and  image stabiliser to name just a few. Users can make videos of their friends and family with the video recording feature. It even has a video stabiliser and a video light. When users have finished taking pictures and videos they can then upload them quickly to their blog for everyone to see.

The C905 has a Wi-Fi antenna and Sony is also bigging up its ability to automatically network with other components – such as a PlayStation 3, Bravia TV or Vaio laptop – using the DLNA standard. DLNA – or Digital Living Network Alliance – is a set of interoperability protocols designed to ensure various electronic devices can easily network with each other without complicated setting up or servers. Its backers include consumer electronics giants such as Sony, Philips and Toshiba as well as mobile phone companies like Nokia, LG, Motorola and – obviously- Sony Ericsson.

The media player comes with an FM Radio, TrackID, Album Art and Play Now, to make the music experience much smoother. The Sony Ericsson C905 also comes complete with a range of in-built games and is Java enabled so users can play games to their hearts content on those long commutes or nights in.

For the internet user the Sony C905 an Access NetFront Web Browser, WAP 1.2.1, WAP 2.0 XHTML and Web Feeds, so owners of this phone will never be without the internet. The Sony Ericsson C905 is a super-sleek looking phone that comes in a variety of colours; Night Black, Ice Silver and Copper Gold, the first of these being the black edition. A contemporary phone with all the features needed and more.

The C905 is the first Cyber-shot to be equipped with assisted GPS which is more responsive than the lugubrious GPS on the first Nokia N95 and the Sony Ericsson W760i. Like the recently released iPhone 3G, the Sony Ericsson C905 will also support the geo-tagging of photos out of the box.

All of this technology has been packed into a casing measuring just 104 x 49 x 18mm which is more than in-line with other models currently available and weighing in at 136g is also not too much for a phone of this stature.

There’s no doubting the design though, as the keypad, brushed lens cover and smooth, rounded edges of the casing all look sleek and in keeping with a high-end mobile.  The release of the C905 has not come soon enough, as this is one of the most exciting phones Sony Ericsson have launched for some time.

Although initially released on O2 pay monthly contract tariffs the C905 is expected to be picked up by further UK network operators and retailers over the next few days, the Sony C905 will also be made available as a SIM Free handset aswell as on the Pay As You Go payment scheme.

The Battle to Rule All Camera Phones – Sony Ericsson C905 Vs. Samsung Innov8

Mobile phones with 8 megapixel cameras are where it’s at right now. Traditionally, Sony Ericsson would own that territory, and they threaten to again with the Sony Ericsson C905. But they have competition in the shape of the Samsung Innov8. Read on to see which one will win!

The back story – how Sony Ericsson more or less created the world of camera phones

It’s fitting, when you think about it, that Sony Ericsson should be the ones at the forefront of the coming paradigm shift in camera-equipped mobile phones. Come on, it was them who began it all, long ago, in 2002. Lest we forget, they were the first phone-maker to unveil a mobile phone that had a camera in it, in the British marketplace. That handset was the Sony Ericsson P800, but it didn’t get the mass market penetration Sony Ericsson would’ve liked, what with it being an amazingly (compared to other mobile phones at the time) top-end smartphone. But, their most iconic phone in history was soon to hit the market, and that one WOULD get great market penetration. That was the Sony Ericsson T610, and it moved the goalposts. There you had a device that stood proudly over the rival mobile phones around it. It was compact, it was slim, and customers went MAD for it. The key thing was… the Sony Ericsson T610 also had a built-in camera, and that it was actually the first phone to go to the wider market, and make people go, ‘Wait a sec, we actually do want mobile phones with cameras in!’

So, let’s look first at the latest evolution in their camera phone portfolio: the Sony Ericsson C905.

Sony Ericsson C905 – Cyber-Shot perfection?

You just can’t deny power, and something is for definite: the Sony Ericsson C905 has much more raw power than any other mobile phones you can get in the UK. And why is that? Well, it’s the first camera phone to be unleashed upon the UK that has an 8 megapixel camera. Yes, you read that right. 8. That’s a disturbingly high pixel resolution, and it means that the Sony Ericsson C905 gives you the power to take the absolute most incredible images you’ve ever experienced, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, in the history of everything ever. Oh, and of course, remember that Sony Ericsson have amped it up with Cyber-Shot awesomeness, and that will make the images coming out of it even more sumptuous. Combine that with a stunning multimedia player, WiFi, HSDPA and built-in GPS, and the end result is that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, without doubt, one of the best camera phones ever made.

Samsung Innov8 – the pretender to the throne

The Sony Ericsson C905 doesn’t get things all its own way, though, because there’s another mobile phone out to steal its thunder: the Samsung Innov8. The question is, though: which of these mobile phones is the one you should go for? Well, there’s one distinct advantage that the Samsung Innov8 has over the Sony Ericsson C905, and that’s because the Samsung Innov8 is a full-on, Symbian S60-powered smartphone. That lets you add on loads of third party software onto the Samsung Innov8, or view and edit Office documents, and so on. But, that power comes at a price. The Samsung Innov8 is quite a bit bigger than the Sony Ericsson C905. Noticeably bigger, in fact, than a lot of mobile phones, and when you factor in that their cameras are dissimilar in quality, and the Sony Ericsson C905, to my mind, looks better, I would say that it makes the C905 a much smarter buy than the Samsung Innov8.

As we head towards the end of the year, one phone-maker is set on shaping the world of camera-enabled mobile phones. This manufacturer is Sony Ericsson, and they plan to not only corner the world in high-end camera phones, but bottom-end ones, as well!

Camera phones evolve – the world created by Sony Ericsson

It’s rather apt, when you think about it, that Sony Ericsson should be the ones leading the way in the revolution in camera-equipped mobile phones. Nowadays, the camera phone world has split, into entry-level handsets, and top-end camera-equipped mobile phones; and Sony Ericsson really badly want to dominate both!

Sony Ericsson C905 – the ultimate camera phone?

There’s no denying power, and one thing is for certain: the Sony Ericsson C905 has loads and loads more raw power than all other mobile phones you can get in the UK. Why is it so special? Simple, this is the first camera phone to be unleashed upon the UK that’s got an 8 megapixel camera. Yes, you read that right. 8. That’s a disturbingly huge pixel count, and it means that with the Sony Ericsson C905, you have the ability to take the absolute most incredible pictures you’ve ever experienced, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, ever. Oh, and of course, don’t forget that Sony Ericsson have packed it full of Cyber-Shot technology, and that’s going to make the pictures it produces even more sumptuous. Combine that with a stunning multimedia player, WiFi, HSDPA and built-in GPS, and you have to come to the conclusion that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, basically, the number one!

So that’s cameras covered, but what about smartphone? well, say hello the stunning Sony Ericsson X1.

Sony Ericsson X1 – the internet king

I’ve done a few articles on the Sony Ericsson X1, so I’m not going to get too bogged down in the features here. I could do, and I COULD go on about the 3 megapixel camera, or the GPS, or the media player, or the brand new interface, or the fact that the X1 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile phone to use Windows Mobile. But I won’t. Instead, I’m going to focus on what features make it the king of internet-enabled mobile phones. It has to be said, that most of the reasons for it being so good online come from it being based on Windows Mobile, so you get things like MSN Messenger, Internet Explorer and Outlook, built into the Sony Ericsson X1. Combine that with the blisteringly quick HSDPA internet access, and the absolutely marvellous QWERTY keyboard, and you get one heck of an internet device. Between the camera-tastic Sony Ericsson C905 and the high-end X1, I’d say they really do have the chops to dominate the world of mobile phones, this Christmas.

As camera phones get more advanced what were top-end mobile phones become more affordable, mid-range phones. Well, that’s exactly what’s happened with the gorgeous Sony Ericsson C902!

Sony Ericsson C902 – the top-end becomes the mid-range

When the world saw its first 5 megapixel mobile phone, no-one could believe they were seeing it, since the biggest, to that point, had been 3 megapixels. Nowadays, though, 5 megapixel mobile phones are common but that doesn’t mean they’re not fabulous. That’s borne out by the Sony Ericsson C902, an absolutely gorgeous little 5 megapixel phone! With a super slim body, and sliding camera cover, the Sony Ericsson C902 is one of those mobile phones that blurs the lines between camera and phone more than any other handsets. The Sony Ericsson C902 is quite simply a stunner, producing photos, and with things like media player, super fast internet and GPS, it just gets better and better. The Sony Ericsson C902 is truly brilliant.

But… no matter how good it is, the Sony Ericsson C902 isn’t the best mobile phone in their portfolio. That honour (in terms of camera phones) belongs to just one handset: the Sony Ericsson C905.

Sony Ericsson C905 – the best camera phone EVER?

There’s no denying power, and one thing is for certain: the Sony Ericsson C905′s got vastly more raw power than all other mobile phones you can buy in the UK. Why is it so special? Combine that with a top of the range multimedia player, WiFi, HSDPA and built-in GPS, and the end result is that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, quite simply, the king of the hill. Combined with the slightly lower spec, but also lower priced Sony Ericsson C902, these two mobile phones really can’t fail!

This really is a mobile phone for those who want the best all-purpose super-phone, and the Sony Ericsson X1 delivers on all fronts.
