People will think 10 times before buying a painting but not twice for a gadget?

A painting usually only increases in price and it lasts for generations, children, grand children, on and on, yet due to the media and advertising people will invest in unnecessary gadgets which they throw away in a year or so and naturally decrease in price. Also a good painting is not necessarily more expensive than a useless gadget.

It is exactly that. Buying a technological device is not as permanent as buying a painting. If you buy a painting you are stuck with it for years, yet with a device you expect to replace it in the future.

In our 30 years of marriage, one thing my husband and I regret is NOT buying the paintings that we have liked. In one case, we walked past the gallery everyday going in to work where a beautiful painting hung in the front window for weeks, stopped to look every time, were very disappointed when it was taken out and replaced with another. It was not until then that we went in and discovered that it had been SOLD!! There have been 3 others that we wished that we had purchased. I think when you purchase real art, you get so much more that just the article, you get part of the artist as well – hard to describe.
