on blackberry storm phone when you send a text what does the display show?

If anyone has a blackberry storm phone, i was wondering if when you receive a text message from someone is it possible to read it-especially a short one without opening it. How does is display it. My current phone lets me know text message is in, then I can clear it & go in & read it in my inbox-if it is a short one. How does the Blackberry look?
