For many years Blackberry was the only smartphone available, and it was not designed for personal use. Certainly individuals could use it if they desired, but it was not intended for that purpose. It is highly unlikely that many individuals were interested not only because the price was commercially based but also because it was heavier than the average cell phone, and people just didn’t want to tote it with them. In spite of the inconvenience, personal users stayed with text messaging or mobile IM’s rather than paying extra for a Blackberry.

Once other manufacturers began to make smartphones, we began to see newer and smaller Blackberry’s such as the Pearl and the Curve. These were designed more for the personal user and were RIM’s attempts to capture the individual market. With the introduction of the Blackberry Bold, RIM is clearing to make more of a mark in the smartphone industry as they have added a number of features that have never been on any previous Blackberry such as a bigger display to allow the user to read longer emails easier and support for Microsoft Office that allows the user to view documents almost as they would appear on a desktop computer. This involves using Docs on the Go, a mobile program that supports Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Making the move to a Blackberry Bold will make a big difference in the way you communicate with family, friends or co-workers. Instead of having to rely on text messaging, you can use email instead. If you choose text messaging, the QWERTY keyword that is standard on a Blackberry Bold will make for quicker and easier conversations. The fact that RIM is adding so many features that have never been on previous Blackberry issues shows that it is coming into 3G technology and 21st century requirements. The Blackberry is no longer just for business use although personal users will likely prefer the smaller Pearl and Curve.

Since the Blackberry Bold is not yet available everywhere, you may have to search a little harder to find a Blackberry Bold review based on actual usage. It may be worth your while to wait and see it when it is released in your area so you can see all of the new features firsthand as well as discover what mobile phone deals may be in effect at the time. Keep in mind that if you already have a carrier, there may be different mobile phone deals with other carried. If the mobile phone deals are more important to you than the carrier, take some time to inquire, but if you are satisfied with what you current provider offers, it’s simply a matter of waiting until you can take advantage of any mobile phone deals that are available through your current mobile phone provider. With all of the new features RIM has put into the Blackberry Bold, there is little doubt this model is going to be the most popular of all the Blackberry models that have been sold so far.

Nokia have now released the second mobile phone from their new Supernova range of handsets, the latest Nokia 7610 Supernova joins the already released 7310 but this new handset is very difefrent in both style and features.

The original Nokia 7310 is a candy-bar designed phone which means that the keys and screen are both located on the front of the phone with no moving parts, the new Nokia 7610 Supernova is different in design as it offers a sliding mechanism to access the main keypad.

Add to this a far higher portfolio of features aswell as a slim design and its clear the 7610 is far superior to its older cousin.

Initially launched as a SIM free mobile phone the Nokia 7610 Supernova can be purchased without having to agree to a contract with any of the networks, consumers can use their existing SIM card and retain their current mobile number, any saved contacts and their account details.

The Nokia 7610 Supernova offers a 3.2 mega-pixel camera with a dual LED flash and innovative theme colourizer feature encased in a glamorous exterior casing. The Nokia 7610 Supernova’s background noise cancellation automatically filters out surrounding noise making sure you can always be heard even in the busiest and loudest situations.

The Nokia 7610 Supernova allows users to match different colours on their phone with the Theme Colourizer feature that lets them identify colours with the camera and adapt them to the Navi Key illumination and wallpaper. USers can also change the look of their Nokia 7610 in an instant with Nokia Xpress-on covers that let them restyle their phone in an instant.

Xpress-on covers have not been seen for mobile phones for well over 6 years, it was a fad that took the industry by storm when users could easily change the exterior casing for a new colour or personlised pattern, Nokia now looks set to reintroduce this feature which will mean that different colour variants of the phone will not be sold.

Nokia 7610 Supernova users can capture images and video with the built-in 3.2 mega-pixel camera and show them off on their TV with the handy TV-out cable connection. They can also store up to 2GB of music ( over 500 songs) on the expandable external memory and listen to their favourite songs on the music player. FM Radio support lets users tune into their favourite radio stations at any time.

The SIM free system of ownership has benefits for many, those who may have had their mobile phone stolen and are not covered by their insurance can easily buy a Nokia 7610 and order a new SIM card from their network provider, others may decide that they really would like the Nokia 7610 Supernova but are still ties into a contract deal, in this case they too can buy the phonie outright and insert their existing SIM card.

Finally, consumers wanting to buy the Nokia 7610 Supernova as a gift can now do so as there is no network registration involved when purchasing a SIM free mobile phone.

The Nokia 7610 Supernova is expected to be launched on contract and pay as you go with the UK network providers in the coming weeks which will allow consumers to connect the handset to their preferred network based on which tariff best suit their usage requirements. It is also expected that independent retailers will also receive stocks of the Nokia 7610 Supernova which will add free gift packages and discounted line rental deals into the mix.

Sony Ericsson C510 Mobile Phone Review – Click With the Most Affordable Camera Phone

Sony Ericsson has long been the star of the mobile phone industry. Not only does it have a world renowned brand but it provides models that are exceptionally good at what they do. The Walkman and Cybershot phones that Sony produces usually contain the highest technology and have the prices to match. However, now there is at least one model that you can afford – the Sony Ericsson C510. One of Sony Ericsson’s most affordable handsets yet, the Sony Ericsson C510 can really appeal to those looking for a bargain but does the handset live up to the hype?

The Sony Ericsson C510 is most definitely a stylish phone and would appeal to everyone at first glance. Very pleasing on the eye, you will fall in love with it right away. It is incredibly fashionable with its clean lines, sleek casing and a huge 2.2″ TFT screen that absolutely dominates it. In fact, it is the Sony Ericsson C510′s screen that will catch your eye from the very start. It displays crisp and clear images, in line with the vast majority of its Cybershot predecessors, and frames the handset well. The buttons that are located underneath it are also a good size and easy enough to use so the overall appearance is proportional, functional and stylish.

As a Cybershot phone, the Sony Ericsson C510′s main feature focus is the camera. At 3.2MP, it is definitely stronger than the cameras to be found on most other affordable phones out there. Not only are the images that the camera can take of an excellent quality but it also has most of the most technologically advanced features available. Face detection, smile shutter, auto focus and photo fix are all available to make your pictures better. There is also a picture blogging feature that allows you to upload photos to your blog as and when you like. Again, all of these features are apt for an upmarket phone but may not be on the feature list that you expected from a mid-range phone like the Sony Ericsson C510!

The Sony Ericsson C510 also has a good music player, unlike some of the Cybershot handsets. The media player also features some of the latest technology, with mega bass capabilities, bluetooth stereo and the usual Sony features like TrackID and PlayNow. It supports most file formats so you can listen to your tunes as and when you like. There are other fantastic features as well, such as access to Google Maps, high end connectivity (bluetooth, USB, GPRS, EDGE, NetFront and PictBridge to name a few) and motion gaming. As such, the handset is packed full of features that can revolutionize your affordable handset experience.

There are a few minor niggles associated with the Sony Ericsson C510, but they should not pose a problem for most people. For example, the dedicated button that takes you directly to the camera is a little sensitive but you will get used to it within a few days. The 100MB of inbuilt memory may also be a problem for some people because of the features but the memory is much bigger than other similar phones. It can also be supplemented with a Micro M2 memory stick.

In summary, the Sony Ericsson C510 is a fantastic little phone that ha excellent features considering how affordable it is. If you are looking for something to blow your mind technologically then this handset will not be it but if you just want all the features that you expect as standard without the cost then this is the handset for you!

Touchscreen Mobile Phones for Christmas – Blackberry Storm and Samsung Pixon

Touchscreen mobile phones sell like hotcakes nowadays, thanks to the iPhone. Love it or hate it, it gave other manufacturers a kick up the backside to produce touchscreen mobile phones that could top it. And now, there are two new contenders: the Samsung Pixon and the phenomenal Blackberry Storm.

Samsung Pixon – the touchscreen mobile phone with 8 massive megapixels

What happens if you take a sleek touchscreen interface, and weld it into a mobile phone that has one of the best cameras known to man? You get the Samsung Pixon, a handset that may very possibly dominate the world of camera-equipped mobile phones this Christmas! The touchscreen interface no the Samsung Pixon is truly a joy to use, and easily measures up to more famous mobile phones (oh ok, the iPhone). But aside from the amazing usability is the long list of features in the Samsung Pixon. The 8 megapixel camera is obviously the star of the show here, as it’s more powerful than most other mobile phones on the market, and features things like face/smile/blink detection, and image stabiliser, to make the Samsung Pixon a properly powerful snapper. Other key features include GPS, fast HSDPA internet and tons of multimedia options.

Blackberry Storm – Causing a storm in the world of mobile phones

For a while, there were rumours of touchscreen Blackberry mobile phones being made. And the rumours came true. But, you see, this isn’t just any mobile phone. The fact is this: the new touchscreen Blackberry Storm is one of the single most innovative and best mobile phones ever made! Ok, it may have taken some design cues from the iPhone (although, in my opinion, the Blackberry Storm is better looking), but it builds on the iPhone experience by being the first device EVER in the world of mobile phones to have a movable, ‘clicky’ screen. In other words, when you press on the screen of the Blackberry Storm, it moves into the phone ever so slightly, and feels exactly like you’re pressing a physical key. That makes the Blackberry Storm’s onscreen keyboard the best I’ve ever, ever come across, and believe me on this: it’s absolutely brilliant to use! In terms of features, the Blackberry Storm gives you a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA internet, GPS (de rigueur for mobile phones these days) and fantastic media playback. Oh, and the amazing Blackberry email service, let’s not forget that… But it’s that screen that’s really going to wow you on the Blackberry Storm, over and over again!

Samsung Pixon vs Blackberry Storm – which should you ask Santa for this year?

So, when you get right down to it, which of these amazing touchscreen mobile phones should you go for? Should you go for the Samsung Pixon, or the Blackberry Storm? The key question you need to ask yourself is what you want it for. If you want an awesome camera, pretty much unequalled in the world of mobile phones, then the one for you is the Samsung Pixon. But for everything else, the Blackberry Storm is the winner. Especially with that screen, which is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen on any mobile phones ever. And I’ve seen a few, in my time! Put simply, whilst the Samsung Pixon may have the better camera, the Blackberry Storm absolutely canes it in every other way!

The Rise of a New Touchscreen Star – the Mind-blowing Nokia 5800 Xpress

Nokia aren’t known for making touchscreen mobile phones, despite making them in the past. That’s about to change with the release of their first mainstream touchscreen phone: the frighteningly brilliant Nokia 5800 Xpress.

A Touching History – Nokia touchscreen mobile phones through the ages

Nokia’s history of touchscreen mobile phones hasn’t exactly been brilliant. The first, the Nokia 7700 was only slightly advanced, and was vile. Its follow-up, the Nokia 7710, wasn’t a great deal better. Nokia have never released a touchscreen mobile phone that’s really hit the big time; they’ve always been, at best, niche mobile phones, or in most cases, not mobile phones at all (as in, they were Nokia internet tablets). With the release of the iPhone, though, it was clear there was a market for touchscreen mobile phones, so Nokia said, ‘We’re having some of that!’

The result is the mobile phone I’m talking about today, and thankfully, the new Nokia 5800 Xpress is far nicer than its predecessors!

Nokia 5800 Xpress – why it rocks

The key thing that’s different about the Nokia 5800 Xpress is its operating system, which, rather than recycling one from old mobile phones, is the brand, spanking new, never-seen-on-any-other-mobile-phones Symbian S60 Touch interface. And just like its top-end rivals in the world of touchscreen mobile phones, the Nokia 5800 Xpress is designed and optimised to use finger control rather than a stylus. In that respect, the Nokia 5800 Xpress is aiming very clearly at beating the iPhone. Features-wise, it easily does that, with a 3 megapixel camera, full-fat HSDPA internet speeds, and built in GPS. Oh, and video recording, something the iPhone lacks. It’s also got access to its own music store, and there’s not getting away from the fact that the Nokia 5800 Xpress is one of the most anticipated mobile phones to be released this year.

But is it going to rule the world?

Nokia 5800 Xpress – ruling the world in two easy steps?

Well, it certainly has the chops to go far, but will the Nokia 5800 Xpress rule the world of mobile phones? Sure, it’s got the novelty value of having that unique touch interface (that’d be step 1), and it’s got the massive brand-power of Nokia behind it (step 2). But… and it’s a big but… what will stop the Nokia 5800 Xpress from ruling the world is what’s missing from the mobile phone; specifically, a big ‘N’ on it to show it’s an Nseries phone. I know it may sound silly, but I honestly think that launching the Nokia 5800 Xpress in any range other than the Nseries may well hurt its sales. But not that badly. Make no mistake, the Nokia 5800 Xpress WILL be one of the biggest mobile phones of 2008!

They’re two of the most powerful mobile phones on the planet, this year, and as we roll on towards Christmas, the fight between the Blackberry Storm and the Sony Ericsson X1 is set to get even more intense. But which if these two superphones should YOU buy?

Blackberry Storm – more than just a storm in a teacup

It’s the first ever Blackberry mobile phone with a touchscreen… it’s the first ever mobile phone to feature a moving, clicky screen… and it’s gorgeous… it can only be the Blackberry Storm. But is it as good as people have been predicting? Well, there’s no denying the Blackberry Storm is cool. Everything from the name to the design, to the list of features is simply brilliant. What really sets the Blackberry Storm apart, though, is that touchscreen, which actually moves down into the phone when you press it. The reason for that? When you press on, say, the virtual keyboard on screen, it feels just like you’re pressing a real key. It makes typing on the touchscreen a much nicer experience, and much easier than a traditional touchscreen. That’s a good thing, because needless to say, you get the usual Blackberry email access on the Blackberry Storm. Include HSDPA internet, GPS and a 3 megapixel camera, and the Blackberry Storm becomes a seriously appealing prospect.

Sony Ericsson X1 – Windows of the soul

Meanwhile, in the blue corner, we have another first: the first mobile phone from Sony Ericsson to ever be built around Windows Mobile. It’s the Sony Ericsson X1 and it is genuinely stunning. Oh, and on top of the Windows Mobile interface, the Sony Ericsson X1 has their brand new ‘panel interface’, taking the user-friendliness to an entirely new level. Encased in a premium metal body, the Sony Ericsson X1 really is one of the nicest and most powerful mobile phones out there, with super fast HSDPA, GPS, a 3 megapixel camera, and one of the fastest processors ever seen on a Windows Mobile phone. Put simply, the Sony Ericsson X1, is genuinely, properly stunning!

But now we come to the big question… of these two mobile phones, which is the one you should actually go for?

Blackberry Storm vs Sony Ericsson X1 – which is the smarter buy?

So, when it comes down to it, which is the one to go for: the Blackberry Storm, or the Sony Ericsson X1? Well, there’s no doubt both mobile phones are incredibly powerful, and they’re definitely pretty evenly matched. The Blackberry Storm has that unique screen, and Blackberry email support, but the, the Sony Ericsson X1 looks better and has a physical, slide-out keyboard. That’s going to mean that typing texts or emails on the Sony Ericsson X1 is inevitably going to be easier and quicker than on the Blackberry Storm. Of course, if you also add on third party messenger software, that’ll benefit from the physical keyboard, too. Combine that fact with the looks, and the fact that it’s probably more powerful than most mobile phones on the planet, and I have to say that after a hard-fought battle, the Sony Ericsson X1 is the winner.
