Nokia have always been associated with the production of technically advanced and stylish looking widgets. They are hailed as the initiators of the mobile phone revolution in the whole world. It is because earlier mobile phones were considered to be meant only for the rich and high class people however Nokia was the first company that introduced the mobile phones which came at reasonably low rate. It was only due to them the mobile phones came into the range of a common person.

Not only that Nokia is continuing the good work and has some super special handsets in the pipeline for its customers. These are Nokia E71 and Nokia E66. In addition to that Nokia is deciding to launch the Supernova series which consists of Nokia 7510 Supernova, Nokia 7310 Supernova and also Nokia 7210 Supernova. But Nokia 6500 slide and Nokia 6300 are two of the handsets that are very popular among the people.

Nokia 6500 slide is a classic combination of class and finesse. This widget is not only blessed with good and elegant designs but also has mind blowing shape. This thing is evident from its dimensions of 96.5 x 46.5 x 16.4 mm which proves that it can fit into the pockets of customers easily. The vital stats are brilliantly complemented by the weight of 125 grams which suggests clearly that it will not be a burden on the pockets of customers. Also the 2.2-inch TFT display of this phone delivers seamless imaging solutions at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. Thus the user of this handset can enjoy clear viewing of the screen. Talking about the memory section well then Nokia 6500 slide is also a winner in this field. It is because it has got the 20 mega bytes of user free internal memory. With dimensions of 106.4 x 43.6 x 11.7 mm and weight of only 91 grams this mobile gadget is certainly different from the rest others. In addition to exceptional looks this reasonable Nokia 6300 has got a very amazing display screen. Yes, the TFT display screen that offers around 16 million colours and besides that it has got a reasonable size of 31 x 41 mm which is the reason why people opt for this handset as its display screen gives them a better viewing experience of the screen. The phonebook of this widget can easily store 1000 different entries of phone numbers. In addition to the feature of photocall this mobile phone can keep the call records of 20 dialled, 20 received and 20 missed calls. Nokia 5610 Xpressmusic: Pros & Cons

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic: Pros & Cons

Nokia XpressMusic is one of the most contending series Nokia ever came up with. The company’s idea of designing high quality music phones for music fans was yet a hard job. The company started up with two sliders Nokia 5200 XpressMusic and Nokia 5300 XpressMusic. Both the phones couldn’t mark their position in the market due to their ‘non-exclusive’ features, similar design and a bit high price. This was the first wave of XpressMusic series. About six months back, Nokia launched two new phones in the XpressMusic series; Nokia 5310 XpressMusic and Nokia 5610 XpressMusic. Nokia 5310 XpressMusic being a sleek monoblock made a proper place in the heart of the ladies & Nokia 5610 XpressMusic was yet another slider. You might be thinking about what’s the reason behind launching three sliders in one year from the same series. There is no actual mystery behind it else then this that the company wants to create such device which may look more like a portable music player. The difference Nokia made in the second wave is that the company replaced the white color from XpressMusic phones with Kelvin Black. This replacement added more sensational look to the 2nd wave.

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is slider with a 3.2 megapixel camera. The phone has a rectangular design. There are no music keys on the side of the screen (which were previously used in Nokia 5300 XpressMusic). The top panel of the phone is made up of metal and the back housing is made up of plastic have a dotted texture. The sliding mechanism seems more strong and efficient than the previous XpressMusic sliders. The people who love music love this phone not only because of it design but for the major reason that this phone actually gave a ‘supreme standard’ to XpressMusic series. Nokia 5610 XpressMusic being ‘the king’ is powered by S40 3rd Version Firmware. The firmware is fast and efficient. The screen of the phone is a TFT which can display vibrant colors. On the right side of the phone, we have the camera and the volume keys (which can be used for zooming in the camera viewfinder). In spite of having so many good features, the users are experiencing some flaws in the phone. These flaws are quiet technical and practical as well. The ‘Cons’ are as under:

1· The phone sometimes behaves ‘dead’ when power saver and sleep mode is turned on simultaenously.

2· The music sliding key (which is placed above the soft keys) gets loose on continuous usage.

3· The front camera can only be used in the video calling mode.

4· The music quality in the headset is ‘treble influenced’.

5· The quality of the accessories doesn’t match with the phone.

6· The main camera has a dual OLED Flash, which behaves violently in the dark.

7· The phone captures the photo in at least 3.5 seconds.

8· No red-eye reduction mode.

9· The flash is turned off when the focus is set in the camera viewfinder. (Un-continuous flash)

10· On zooming the size of the photo is reduced (in-short the zooming and cropping of image takes place at the same time).

11· The screen catches finger-prints and dust very quickly.

12· The built-in Opera Mini browser works slow on the phone.

The above mentioned points are the problems faced by the costumers. The first point is an “interaction problem” the software mingles up with the hardware and as a result of it the consumers face this ‘sleeping problem’ with their Nokia 5610 XpressMusic phones. The company replaced the music keys with a music sliding key. This sliding key can be used to frequently interact with the music player, radio and the desktop even if you are in the main menu. On continuous use, this key becomes loose and begins to work improperly. The third point I mentioned above is about the front camera. Well the fact is that, 55 % of the costumers who spent 180-190 Euros on this phone don’t even know that it has two cameras and it can only be used when you make a video-call. The fourth point I mentioned above is something which I personally noticed, the sound quality is good but it has more treble. Even if you set the equalizer the sound will have that ‘treble tinge’ in it. The manufacturer has provided a dual-OLED flash to lighten up the 3.2 megapixel camera in the dark. In such light conditions where we really need a flash, the flash behaves too violently. The range of the flash is good but it would have been a better idea if the manufacturer had placed a single OLED flash in it. In dark close-up conditions, the captured image gets ‘totally white’. Another flaw, I mentioned above about the camera is that the phone takes at least 3.5 seconds in focusing, capturing and saving the image. The flash has two options (Automatic and On) but there is no difference whether you turn on the Automatic flash or you just set it to ‘On’. Although Nokia 5610 XpressMusic has a 3.2 megapixel camera but it has no Red-Eye Reduction mode. In the camera viewfinder, after focusing the flash is turned off immediately and on capturing the image the flash flashes twice which is actually a good option but it turn things ‘extremely white’. Another flaw, I stated above is one conventional problem of Nokia S40 phones, On zooming the picture size gets small. Nokia 5610 XpressMusic being the ‘leader’ of the S40 phones have the same flaw. The second last flaw is that the manufacturer has provided a ‘scratch-free’ cover of the display but it catches dust, stains and especially fingerprints very quickly. Sometimes, the users really need to clean-up the screen before ‘Turning into the groove’. The last flaw I personally observed is that the phone gets very slow while surfing the web using Opera Mini Browser.

Nokia 5610 XpressMusic is the most advanced S40 phones Nokia ever made. All the flaws I mentioned are based upon user reviews and my personal experiences. These flaws may vary in different regions and firmware editions. In few months, may be the company minimizes these flaws by installing a new firmware in the upcoming shipments.

Touchscreen Mobile Phones Go to War – Blackberry Storm Vs Nokia 5800

It’s time for what may seem to be an odd match-up today, but when you think about it, these two particular mobile phones are actually pretty evenly matched, and pitting them against each other DOES make sense. So, let’s settle down watch the action as the Blackberry Storm takes on the Nokia 5800.

Nokia 5800 – touch, feel, play

The first phone in this battle’s a totally new member of Nokia’s Xpress range of music mobile phones, the gorgeous Nokia 5800. This phone is quite obviously made for music and media, as it has a separate XpressMedia button that pops up a list of links to music, videos, the web, and more. Then, of course, the Nokia 5800 has a 3.2 inch touch-sensitive display, to let you use all your media files. Essentially, the Nokia 5800 was created to be a little handheld jukebox and movie player, and as music devices go, this is just about the prettiest. The Nokia 5800 also has, built-in, a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA internet access and sat-nav, making it a wonderful all-rounder, as well as a brilliant media box. Oh, and it has a strap to fasten on a fake guitar plectrum. That rocks.

It’s also the first mobile phone to use the new Symbian S60 Touch platform, making it the first of a generation. So, with that in mind, let’s pit it against another phone that uses a brand new, touchscreen platform: the gorgeous Blackberry Storm.

Blackberry Storm – more than just a storm in a teacup

Up against the Nokia 5800 is the new Blackberry Storm, and although it might seem an odd match-up, in fight terms, it’s not actually as daft as it sounds. For example, both the Nokia 5800 and the Blackberry Storm are the first mobile phones to feature the touch versions of their respective operating systems, with the Blackberry Storm being based, obviously, on the Blackberry OS (well, the touch version of it, anyway). The Blackberry Storm also has a 3 megapixel camera, similar to the 5800, and it has a wealth of multimedia options. Both mobile phones also forgo a physical keyboard, but the Blackberry Storm adds something new to its virtual keyboard (well, to its interface as a whole): a moving, clickable screen. That’s right, the whole screen is clickable like a giant button, making ‘accidentally starting applications by touching the wrong icon’ a thing of the past. Of course, like all of its predecessors, the Blackberry Storm lives for email, as well, and its push email, just like its ancestors, lets you keep in touch with your emails, no matter where.

Nokia 5800 vs Blackberry Storm – which one should YOU buy?

So, which of these two mobile phones should you go for? Should you go for the more media-oriented Nokia 5800? Or possibly you like the email capabilities of the Blackberry Storm? Well, to a certain extent, it WILL come down to what you wan to use it for. The Blackberry Storm is undoubtedly the more capable of the two mobile phones for email. Well, come on, it has Blackberry email access, surely that was never in doubt! However, when it comes to media, the Nokia 5800 is clearly the more capable, with more colours no screen, smoother playback, better music quality, and so on. However, there is one thing you need to know about the Blackberry Storm, because its biggest strength is also its biggest flaw: that clickable touchscreen. It’s innovative, it completely removes the possibility of catching the wrong icon on screen, and it’s not been seen on any other mobile phones before, giving it cool factor. BUT (and it’s a big but), you have to really press down on it; when typing out an email on the Blackberry Storm, it’s going to absolutely destroy your thumb muscles after a while, and quite apart from tiring your hands quicker, it also makes it marginally slower to type that email. So, given the fact that it may well physically hurt to use the Storm after a while, the winner, for me, has to be the Nokia 5800.

The Nokia 6500  range is split into two categories, the Classic and Slide models, the latter obviously incorporating a slide mechanism but also a slightly better equipped camera.

Both Nokia 6500 categories offer 3G enabled phones, however the Nokia 6500 Classic does not support face to face video calling.

The Silver Nokia 6500 Classic swells the number of colour variants in the Classic range to four which now includes Gold, Black and Bronze models.

The Silver Nokia 6500 Classic offers exactly the same great design, technology and features as the rest of the 6500 Classic range but now comes in a sleek silver casing.

The Nokia 6500 classic mobile phone has a flawless, stylish appearance: the handset equivalent of a Hollywood star. The polished exterior is made from aluminium, giving it a tough yet light casing. At under 100g in weight and measuring less than 1cm deep, this sleek handset is definitely ready for a photo shoot!

And it’s just as happy behind the lens, thanks to a 2 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. You won’t be struggling for storage space, because the Nokia 6500 Classic has an incredible 1GB of memory. That’s plenty for your photos – and it’s handy for music too, because there’s a built-in MP3 player.

All this is pretty impressive… and it’s more impressive when you learn that the Nokia 6150 classic includes 3G technology to speed up your mobile internet browsing. Plus, as you’d expect from Nokia, the phone is delightfully practical. As well as using the company’s well-respected menu system, the Nokia 6500 classic has a single micro USB socket that can be used for charging or for transferring data. It even means the handset can be used as an external disc drive for your PC or charged directly from a laptop.

It certainly looks good – and, with its well-chosen features, this slim 3G handset is much more than merely a pretty face.
