I want to buy a smartphone off of ebay and activate it on Verizon wireless’ website. I currently have the basic $39.99 plan. Will Verizon detect that my new phone is a smartphone and automatically upgrade me to a data plan? I don’t need the data features, I just really like the smartphone.

I know that hard drives, it affects their failure rate – but those are hard drives, not solid state type things. Does if affect the lifespan of a smartphone if it’s bounced around in the mail system like 10 different places, in the manner shippers do – plane, truck, throwing it around, etc?

You would think this would be an easy task, but no.
I’ve tried numerous softwares, but they all want an external GPS receiver.
I’m using a Nokia N95-4 (8GB NAM) phone, running Symbian.

I’d like to simply record a gps trail for mountain biking/driving.. it doesn’t even need to have an overlay of any kind, as I can export it later on.

I want to switch from a PDA to a smartphone. I currently have the Palm TX and feel it’s time to combine cell phone with PDA. I’m ruling out Palm, Apple and Microsoft smartphones and MS Outlook (I would prefer to use a Palm Desktop equivalent).

So my question is: Excluding Palm, Apple and Microsoft solutions, what smartphones and calendar/address book/task manager desktop software are good alternatives to the Palm TX and Palm Desktop?
